Steve Lopes is regarded as one of the country's most promising young figurative artists working with paint and print processes. The inhabitants of Lopes' landscapes come filled with hope, often in the processes of regenerative cathartic actions in various symbolic meditative states. These distinctive prints are imbued with a large investment of labour and skill which has made them readily recognisable and highly collectable.
Steve Lopes trained at Sydney's College of Fine Art and in 1998 he returned from two years' study in London where he was twice named in the top young artists under 30 in Britain by the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, exhibiting at the Mall Galleries.
His work is represented in the National Gallery of Australia- Canberra, BHP Billiton Art collection, New South Wales State Library - Wollongong University Art Collection, Time Warner- New York, Rolls Royce-London, British Biotech- London and private collections around the world.
Steve Lopes is based in Sydney. For more details, visit his website at http://stevelopes.com.au
