Rushdi Anwar was born in Halabja, Kurdistan. He has been exhibiting since 1989 in groups and as solo, holding shows in Kurdistan, Austria, Finland, France, Canada, Japan and Australia.
Rushdi's artwork is noted for boldly expressing the deep emotional effects of a country under seige and yet shows a sensitivity and delicacy in contrast to this.
Rushdi said, 'I was too young when my town was attacked by chemical weapons that had red apple fragrance but because of this I was determined to get out, to seek freedom and with trembling steps through mine fields I left my occupied homeland towards impossible unknown tomorrow. In 1998, Rushdi Anwar immigrated to Australia.
